Software Update By SW is a command-line package that, when installed, runs a series of scripts to download & install all available software updates from the designated Software Update Server on Mac OS X.

So why have this when you already have Software Update?

Unlike a standalone utility, SU is a payload-free package. Which means, there really is no application; just a series of commands that are run.
Thus, it can be used in conjunction with technologies such as:

Apple Remote Desktop
Timbuktu
Telnet/SSH
Netboot
Netinstall

So you can run this utility on several thousand machines simultaneously....even remotely!
This could save lots of time if you wanted to perform this maintenance without going to yet-another mac and running yet-another copy of yet another utility.
